Antisemitism and Gender in American History
This lecture asks: Where, when, and how, across American history, Jewish women encountered antisemitism? Antisemitism propelled Jewish women to take up their pens in protest, to picket five-and-dimes, and to stand united against the feminists who should have been their sisters but who shunned them. Antisemitism caused Jewish women pain as individuals and as mothers heartbroken over their children’s shattered dreams. All too often, in the distant and recent pasts, Jewish women saw misogyny and antisemitism targeting them at the same time.
